The tradition is back! What a wonderful event with many participants, people along the street throughout Cool Air cheering on the parade participants and the Tree Lighting at Mineral Lodge with Hot Cocoa for all! Thanks to Jan Gravier for bringing the tradition back, which was especially appreciated by all of the new families with children and those who remember the parade from the past.
The Fire Truck from Payne's Creek opened the parade, followed by Linda with the California flag with Lisa and family following with the Mineral Flyers float. Honorary Mayor and Grand Marshal Pam represented Mineral driving her tractor. Family members from both the Mineral Lodge and Mill Creek Resort were in the Parade, along with quite a few community members who joined along. Cheryl pushed her well lighted snow shovel (yes, the entire way!) Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Chief Elf were a big hit pulling up the end of the parade and stopping at Mineral Lodge for photos afterwards. Thanks to Lefty for serving as Rudolph and driving them!
Over at Mineral Lodge, we gathered to light the tree, take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Chief Elf and have Hot Cocoa. Santa's family was present, representing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations since their grandfather/father founded the Church Camp!
Thanks to Kamile for making the float signs, Max for the glow sticks, Lisa for the backdrops, Lassen Mineral Lodge Restaurant for the delicious Hot Cocoa, Rachael, Brandy and Avery for making sure the tree got up and Lefty for carrying on the tradition of his father by lighting it. Thanks for so many people coming out to be in and support the Parade and also to support the Lassen Mineral Lodge by filling up the restaurant throughout Thanksgiving, Friday and the weekend. It makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated!
Winners of the Lodge gift certificates for the float entries were the Claus Family, Mill Creek Resort (with their family truck with tree, rocking chair and family members) and Cheryl, dutifully pushing her decorated snow shovel - ready for the season!
As always, a big thanks to the extended Glenn Family for everything they do for all of us in Mineral, during the holidays and all year long.
See you next Thanksgiving weekend on Friday at 4 PM!

According to the the Surgeon General's Advisory (2023), "Loneliness is far more than just a bad feeling—it harms both individual and societal health. It is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death. The mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day,4 and even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity. And the harmful consequences of a society that lacks social connection can be felt in our schools, workplaces, and civic organizations, where performance, productivity, and engagement are diminished. Given the profound consequences of loneliness and isolation, we have an opportunity, and an obligation, to make the same investments in addressing social connection that we have made in addressing tobacco use, obesity, and the addiction crisis. This Surgeon General’s Advisory shows us how to build more connected lives and a more connected society."
The residents and visitors know that community helps to keep us healthy and happy. BATTLE CREEK WATERSHED PUBLIC MEETINGS: The Battle Creek Watershed Conservancy hosted two public meetings in Manton and online on May 19th and 20th. The first was a Technical Team meeting largely focused on Chinook Salmon recovery data from the Bureau of Reclamation's Battle Creek Salmon & Steelhead Restoration Project. The second focused on various parts of the US Forest Service's West Lassen Headwaters Project, one of which involves targeted spraying of 7 herbicides (including formulations of glyphosate) to prevent recurrence of invasive plants throughout 10,000 acres in Plumas, Shasta, and Tehama Counties slated for re-forestation following the Dixie and Park Fires. For organizational context and specifics on these projects, click here. A report has been issued since and information is available on the News page of the website and the Firewise board at the mall in front of the Campground.
Thanks to Lefty and Jodi, Mineral has new signs!
In 2024, community members and visitors Lassen welcomed the sign "Mineral Gateway to Mt. Lassen" which also notes elevation of 4918. The sign can be found on the North side of the 36 Highway on the "Snow Hill" just before Lassen Mineral Lodge restaurant.
Now as of 2025, visitors to the Cool Air area, south of the 36, are welcomed by the Cool Air sign, indicating Est. 1928. Not only does it look great, but we're learning about our neighborhoods, too!
