Just a few hundred feet above Mineral, the snowpack remains while much of it has melted throughout town.
In January, Green Waste of Tehama moved the trash and recycling bins from Mineral School to the old gas station.
Whether you call them a 'rafter,' a 'gaggle' or a 'flock,' the turkeys of Mineral seem to be here to stay. They no longer migrate to lower elevations in the winter, it seems.
Heavy and near-constant rain from Christmas to New Year's Day melted most of the snow.
Area drainage ditches are flowing fast enough to produce white water. Today, January 3, 2025, a mudslide closed highway 36 a few miles west of Paynes Creek. Always check road conditions before traveling to Mineral.

In support of our local post office, we are hosting the Mineral Postcard Project.
When you come into the Mineral Post Office, you'll be able to pick up a commemorative postcard! Buy some stamps while you're at it and support our local post office.
Several members of the community have rallied together for this project in support of our local Postmaster and Post Office. Although the Park Fire's evacuation delayed things a bit, with Mineral spared from the fire, the community is more ready to celebrate and appreciate our little town.
During the Winter, residents and visitors visiting the Mineral, California Post Office (on Highway 36 on the road to Lassen National Volcanic Park) will be able to pick up Winter-themed postcards. A series will be released one at a time, in a limited quantity. If you mail a check to the Mineral Post Office to order stamps, the commemorative postcard that is currently available, will be included.
The community plans to mail a promotion to the neighbors in support of this program during the late Spring, as most people are coming back to their cabins for the Summer.
Check www.mineralcalifornia.com for the latest information about the Mineral Postcard Project, as the postcards are unveiled this Winter!
Tehama County Arts Council and California Arts Council have supported the Mineral California Postcard project with a grant. Thank you to the Councils and we look forward to working on this project in support of our community and local post office.
