Mineral is full of yellows as Fall sets in and the rain starts to drizzle. If you're in town this weekend, we hope to see you at the Lodge's Halloween Party! After Halloween, the Lassen Mineral Lodge restaurant hours switch to weekends only, but the community activities will be in full-swing! Jim will keep the store open during the week as the Lodge continues to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Glenn family's ownership. Of special note this holiday season: this is the second year of the return of the Holiday Parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Hopefully you will join in or watch from Cool Air and come to the Lodge parking lot after to celebrate with Santa. CONSERVATION & PRESERVATION
Water District Preservation
The Water District Building is now blue! It has been painted as part of its preservation program. As a vital part of our community, the building serves not only as offices for the Water District staff and for Board meetings, but also as a community resource. Each week community events such as Mineral Cards, Magic the Gathering card games, Stretch Class and special celebrations take place in the building.
Lodge Restoration
The Lassen Mineral Lodge is planning some restoration projects as part of their 30th Anniversary celebration. They have put together a wish list and are working through it. This season, the inside of the Souvenir Shop has been turned into a warehouse to support the store and future online orders. If you would like to support some of the projects on the list, please contact Lefty McClellan who is volunteering to help to coordinate.
Resource Conservation District (RCD)
RCD has been busy supporting residents throughout Mineral this year, helping with tree maintenance and defensible space to help make Mineral safer should a nearby wildfire be dropping embers. Submit Your Defensible Space Support Requests Now (And Again, if Needed) Here
NEWS
Vacation Rentals
Mineral is a great place to getaway and vacation rentals make it possible for visitors and former residents to come and spend time with us. Sometimes visitors come to visit Lassen and sometimes they come for Mineral, to relax and see friends and family. We often hear how meaningful that is, although we do wish we also had more full time residents at times. If you have a vacation rental, perhaps you'll help engage visitors in the community and maybe some will move here in the future. If you would like a folder with flyers for local events, please let us know at mineralcalifornia@gmail.com and we'll get you one and continue to send quarterly updates. Rachael Glenn just bought some green folders so we can share the upcoming calendars and seasonal information with visitors. Looking for a place for an upcoming visit? View Ron's Cabin which can be rented directly by clicking on this PDF Flyer. Also see the popular vacation rental sites: As of today for the first week of November, AirBNB has 10 vacation rentals available and VRBO has 12 vacation rentals listed. If you're visiting Mineral during Thanksgiving weekend for dinner and the Parade, be sure to book ASAP.
The 30th Anniversary of the Glenn Family Owning Mineral Lodge
June 19th marked the 30th anniversary of the Lassen Mineral Lodge and Volcano Campground being owned by the Glenn Family! The celebration continues throughout the Fall and Winter seasons with community activities. Come get your picture by the gold 30 balloons in the restaurant this week or during the weekends starting in November.
Lodge Store Shopping Service
After several requests for online shopping at the store, we've started a shopping service. The Lassen Sweatshirts are very popular now that it's getting cooler. And, the Lassen t-shirts are on sale. If you're not in town and want to order some and have them shipped, visit www.mineralcalifornia.com/shop to see pictures and for information as to how you can have someone local shop for you in Mineral in time for Christmas. Proceeds support community activities such as flyers and event prizes.
Barbara Jackson Conservation Library
Visit the Barbara Jackson Conservation Library bookshelf at the Lassen Mineral Lodge Restaurant and Saloon. Donated by the family and estate of Barbara Jackson, a local conservationist, these conservation-focused books can be borrowed and returned. Sometimes people love the material so much that they take it with them. If you have conservation and regionally focused books that you would like to donate, please bring to Brandy at the Lodge restaurant.
Tehama Historical Society
The Mineral History Club recently attended a fair with many local history clubs and museums. We shared photos of Mineral throughout the years and the Lodge sold Mineral t-shirts and our new history journals. Beverly Ogle shared stories with our booth visitors, who were delighted to see her. Many people stopped by to say they hadn't been to Mineral for years, but will try to come up for Breakfast Club.
Collins Pine Ryan 40
The local Watershed group, co-founded by Mineral resident Jim Richardson, gathered a large group from across organizations. The group visited several areas surrounding Mineral to see the progress and discuss various treatment options. The new Ryan 40 at Collins Pine on the South side of Highway 36 is 40 acres where they are testing 4 different methods for optimal growth and best management practices. This area is open to the public to view and walk around. Access it through the Pacific Crest Trail just off of Highway 36.
Did You Know?
There used to be a house across the street and slightly West from the Post Office. You may drive by it and never notice, but the historical remnants of the old fireplace remain. Thanks to the History Club, people are digging up knowledge that we could preserve.
Prizes and Gifts
Jan Gravier at the Mineral Post Office has offered to collect prizes and gift baskets for local events such as the Volunteer Fire Department's Pancake Breakfast, Easter Bingo and the Wildflower Festival. If you have new or collectible items, or love putting together gift baskets, please bring items to Jan at the Post Office. Specify the event or say it's for whatever is needed. She'll see that they get to the right groups to wrap up, as needed. Plus, as a long standing tradition, if you have a quantity of new small gifts, or lightly used merchandise that you'd like to share with the community, you can offer it in the lobby of the Post Office.
Defensible Space
Do you need defensible space support to clean up fire fuels around your property before Winter sets in or for Spring? See this flyer for more information (copies available at the Post Office) and sign up at www.tehama-conservation-fund.org.
Lassen Association
The Lassen Association has a sale on the popular Lassen Resilience prints. Rumor has it that Hobby Lobby has great frames for them. If you want to order a print, this is a good time. Visit their online store: https://www.lassenassociation.org/store/p/lassen-resilience-limited-edition-print?rq=resilience You can also renew your membership online to take advantage of the members discount.
